A while ago I learned about and joined the mailing list for a young man named Aaron Jackson. Aarom is a upper middle class American who gave up everything he had to go and help homeless, orphaned children in Haiti. He raises money online to build orphanages and also to provide free worming for children (many children die every year from malnutrition caused by parasites). When back in the states he lives homeless on the streets of Miami, saving his money to go back and help his "kids". CNN is conducting an online poll to find their viewer's favorite "hero". Aaron is one of those up for the award. The winner will be awarded 25,000 for their cause, so you can imagine how much help that would be. All you have to do is click the CNN link and vote for Aaron, then pass this on to friends. You can read his story by clicking on his link. I've given my own money to his cause and think it's very worthwhile.

A good laugh for anyone that might need it. I was thinking about this skit today, I hadn't seen it in forever, and I have to say it still makes me just laugh and laugh. Now to find the one with the male synchronized swimmers.

My Weekly Sad DH Spoiler You tube contribution. Stumbled across this as this person has done some other videos I liked. It you can get over the initial jarring weirdness of having natalie portman as tonks and then the bit at the very end where you have to look not too closely at who she's kissing.. Yeah... The editing is just wonderful and I love the song, i downloaded it as i can't get it out of my head. It made me cry .. really.

Today on the way home from the "spashpark" here in town (it was our first time at this one and Xander seemed to like it pretty well) it started to rain, so I pulled into the garage and got out my loads of stuff and the munchkin (he didn't have shoes on so I had to carry him) and just then our garbage men pulled by to take up our trash. We always wave to them when they go by, and they wave back. Well today, I asked the guy how he was and he said fine, doing pretty well, and then he brought my trash can from the curb.. in the rain and into my garage for me. I was totally stunned and told him thank you and he said, oh, no problem, you look like you had your hands full.

So my thought on decreasing world suck? Yeah. Start being a little nicer to each other for crying out loud!

On the notation of decreasing world suck thought I'd update on the Greenbag situation. Took them to Publix this week, had a major cart of groceries and two green bags. I ended up with two green bags full, and three plastic bags (one with meat the other with eggs and something frozen). i think they could have done it in two but that's just me. So, I thought I would post pics so everyone could see how much the green bags hold.

In other news. Went to the dentist today (had forgotten my appt until late last night then had to scramble to get my mom to babysit). I've had this weird redness and bleeding in an area of my gums and just about the time I got sick I had an odd blister there. Anyway, he thinks it's a dead nerve and I'll need a root canal... it's a front tooth too wah! And then there's a crown in the back i've put off having that i will need now and yeah... so pain pills here I come.. also, at least this time I have some dental insurance so hopefully it won't set me back quite as much... alas. Ok so that marginally increases the amount of world suck but hey at least it's dental care so i suppose it's only suck in my immediate area.

My flist was all messed up by a meme or a photo someone posted. For some reason it keeps putting the same three posts (from three days ago) at the top and then the new ones. I'm going to try unfriending the three posters for a day or so and see if it clears out, so if you see I've unfriended you, I still love you, and will refriend once the problem is fixed!

As many of you may or may not know, especially Florida residents, I live about 10 miles from where they are keeping Terri Schaivo, the woman who is in a vegetative state. She has been in that state for more than twelve years, with no sign that she will ever recover. The courts have upheld her right to die, but her family has pushed for the federal government to get involved. So apparently, they are trying. No matter what one's views on life or right to life are, I think the federal government should NOT be involved in what is essentially so private of a matter. If they become involved what is to stop them from regulating this in the future for anyone? For any random person to come in and try to tell your family that if you were in that situation you didn't have the right to die if you so wished? Whether or not you think it is right for Terri to be allowed to die, you should recognize the inherent harm in giving the government such powers. Her parents arranged to have over 2 million emails sent out to conservative groups to mobilize and get their congressmen to try to step in. This here is me trying to do the same thing. I sent an email to my congressmen and also to the President. Here is a copy of what I sent. I would urge you, if you feel the governemnt is going to far, to go to http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/ find your congress representatives, and send them an email. Feel free to cut and paste from mine if you wish. I realize there are probably a few of you out there who feel this is murder and should be not allowed to happen, to you all I can say is that Terri Schaivo is not alive save that she breathes and her heart beats. She does not laugh or talk or sing. She cannot move. She cannot think. She is essentially dead, and should be allowed to peacefully pass on to the next world. So please, pass the word on if you can. I'm not flocking this post so if you want to link to it, please do. Today is Palm Sunday, let us have mercy on the soul of one who cannot speak for herself.

My letter:

I am contacting my members of Congress regarding an issue of concern to
me. I am a resident of Pinellas County, Florida. Recently, our world has been turned upside down by the case of Terry Schiavo. Here is a woman who is alive only in the sense that her body still functions, like a machine. She can not speak or think, she does not know who is surrounding her. In a just world she should be allowed to pass into the next life in peace, but this is not a just world. What is happening is that her parents, in a last ditch effort to save her life from some misguided notion that they are doing the right thing for her, have gotten the federal governement involved. This case has been a three ring circus for the last seven years. The federal goverment does not need to be and should not be involved in what is essentially a private family matter. I strongly urge you to respect the wishes of her husband Micheal and also the rulings of the courts. Let Terry die in peace. I am a veterinarian. When an animal is ill and there is no hope, when it is suffering and that animal's life is nothing but a shell of what it was, we are allowed to let it pass peacefully on to the next life. Why should Terry Shaivo be denied the dignity and courtesy we would allow a simple dog? Please, do not be swayed into making this a political issue. A woman like Terry Shiavo has suffered enough. She does not deserve to be a political sound bite as well.

May be found here. I think the information provided in this site is very clear and looks at medical and legal facts rather than emotional issues.

I also wanted to point out that while many people seem to see it as Micheal Schiavo choosing to end her life, in reality the court was appointed to make that deicsion because her family could not agree on it. After seeing all the evidence including the opinions of doctors on both sides and independent doctors, they decided the best course and what she would have wanted would to have her life end. What right does a congressman from some other part of the country looking for support from the conservative, vocal population, have to try to get involved in this? None.

I've lost my voice! Damn this creeping crud sickness whatever it is! I cannot speak above the softest of whispers and I have to work today! My boss is on vacation and I have to cover the office. Luckily it's only 1/2 a day today. May try to go to the doctor this afternoon if not doing better. This SUCKS. Big time.
